Contact the police

Call 112 when immediate help is needed. For services or other matters that are not emergencies, the police list 02800 as their switchboard number.

DyreID and Dyrebar

The DyreID app has the Savnet & Funnet service, where a pet can be reported missing or found. Dyrebar provides information about adverts for missing animals.

Microchips

A microchip must be read with a microchip reader. DyreID states that readers can be found, among other places, at veterinary clinics and police offices.

If you have found a dog

Section 10 of the Dog Act applies when someone takes in a dog that is at large in breach of the control requirements. The dog must be returned to the keeper if the keeper is present, unless the keeper is clearly unable to care for the dog lawfully and responsibly. Otherwise, the dog must be handed to the police as soon as possible.

If the keeper does not collect the dog within a reasonable time, but no earlier than one week after notice, the police may sell, rehome or euthanise the dog.

Microchipping when travelling

Microchip rules at border crossings depend on the journey. See the Norwegian Food Safety Authority's travel information for current requirements.
